[Eley is in a thoughtful mood, and when that kind of mood strikes him he starts to question things again... Feelings, usually. Human behaviours too. Today he's realised something and wants to ask the people of Luceti about it. As usual he's sitting on the outskirts of town with his journal on the ground in front of him, pointing up at his face as he looks down.]

Today I come to you with another question. 'Fun' is a concept I have not yet come to understand. As I will need to find ways of occupying myself during my stay in Luceti, I want to ask you all - what do you do for fun?

Perhaps I can give these things a try.

[Eley doesn't understand fun? That's a bit of a strange question, but in all honesty doesn't really come across as a surprise to Rudy at this point. Unlike the others, he won't comment on that. Instead, he answers honestly.]

Fun, huh... there's a lot of things I can think of. Being with friends, playing games, even exploring can be fun. [Brief pause, as he thinks.] Music too.

But those are just things I like. It's different for everyone, really.

[Wow. Eley isn't quite sure what he's talking about but now he's morbidly curious.]

What is this... film?

[Sometimes he forgets how sheltered you are, Eley.]

Drinking alcohol. Not water. Have you had a drink with alcohol in it before?

[Oh... ohh! The understanding finally sinks in. Of course, people did seem to enjoy alcohol. Tsuzuki seemed pretty happy the last time Eley encountered him drunk after all.

Still, he has to shake his head.]

I have never tried it myself.

Well, there are a lot of films that are about robots breaking free from the pattern of being an emotionless robot serving Midgardians.

They are not very creative when it comes to their films, you see?

[Loki ponders.]

Ah, there is one film about an elderly robot and he is a servant to a household. And eventually he starts to develop emotions and feelings and people are heading out to destroy him because that is not how it should be. And he is a woodcarver as well.

An intricate plot which involves a lot of tears and dramatic turns. I advise you to watch it together with a fair maiden, yes?

I think there are enough card game players here. If nothing else, you could always ask around and meet more, eh?

Yes, it really is that sad. For some being to live without enjoyment and only to fulfill a purpose, even a spirit like you, is to be something barely alive. I have my duties and responsibilities, yes, but that doesn't stop me from indulging my interests and enjoying my existence. That's part of the reason we have thoughts, I think. So we can find what we enjoy, and enjoy it. Otherwise, what is the purpose of living?

[She has a very, very easy outlook on a lot of things Particularly that.]

I think that looking for many interests might do you some good, so you can find the things you enjoy and make up for lost time.

[A nod follows]

I think that learning and testing oneself can be fun, yes. I see no reason why they can't. After all, learning is at the heart of all of my interests.

[ 'of human life'.. huh, so it's something else then? a robot, maybe, or some supernatural creature-- nothing would surprise her anymore at this point. ]

Don't you think the term explains itself? [ no, that makes it sound like someone who poops at parties.. ]

It makes you feel relaxed, so maybe we should try it sometime.

[And well, that's only half the truth. He figures he ought to be straight with him.]

But it also makes you kind of stupid, especially if you drink a lot.

I favor dancing greatly but... as I said, not many opportunities. 'tis not an activity that is fun alone.

Games of strategy would be such things as chess, go, pai sho, risk... and so on.

[Smirk.] Oh, just little tricks to lighten things up.

[Spock gives the question some consideration before answering....]

'Fun' as human's designate it, could be interpreted in Vulcan society in a situation where one finds satisfaction in an action.
This answer however does not seem to... impress others.

What of yourself?

Hmm... from experience it does seem as though I need to relax more. I would be willing to try, I think.

[It can make you stupid though? Ah yes, of course. Intoxication leading humans to do things they otherwise wouldn't.]

How do you know how much you should have before you become... stupid?

It does not? Your definition seems reasonable to me. I would be inclined to agree with it, at least from what I have seen and learned myself. Or is it that fun and enjoyment are somehow different?

['At your service', hmm? That seems to get his attention.]

What kind of services are you offering to me as a pirate?

[He nods.] I will be sure to ask others and see what can be arranged.

Dancing alone... it does not seem like dancing then. Then again I have only had one experience so far. I am sure it was not quite the norm, but it was somehow enjoyable nonetheless.

Ah, yes, others have mentioned these games. I am not familiar with them but perhaps I could choose one to learn for myself.

[Well, that wasn't suspicious at all. Now Eley's watching him carefully.]

Can you explain?

I am sure many are fascinated with emotionless beings if they themselves possess emotions. In my case, it is simply the other way around.

[He listens to the description of the film, though he has never seen any such thing in his world.]

It sounds interesting. Do you know where I can find such a film? Ah, and I am not sure if I know of many 'fair maidens' to ask, but I will do my best if it will help in some way.

[Tsuzuki's smile widens. He's wanted a real drinking buggy for a long time.]

Trial and error, mostly. It helps to have a good friend with you, someone that can take care of you if you accidentally drink too much.

[...exactly how it sounds. Which makes Eley look rather uncomfortable.]

If that is the case then it sounds rather... disgusting. I am sure I have never done anything like that before.

... [Her words seem to resonate with him somewhere and he takes a moment to think on them. Some had attributed him to a robot already. And without emotion, a Spirit was barely living?]

If that is the case then I should consider myself blessed to have these emotions, not ashamed. That is not something I am used to. These feelings to me were a mistake, an ailment.

However, if I learn and find new challenges, new interests as you suggest... perhaps I will come to understand these feelings and do something positive with them. Yes... I should hold onto that thought.

So fun depends on individual preference? I see. Still, it seems that there are some popular activities among the people here. Spending time with friends, reading, playing games and music all seem to be common.

Thinking about it, I was also partial to music in Agkelos. I also spent much of my time wandering the world I took care of.

[Spock gives a small sigh... having to contend with his human side has been difficult.]

I believe it is a matter of perception. Most humans have a rather specific definition for 'fun' and what passes for enjoyment.
I have been asked by several Starfleet personnel why I do not tend to laugh.. Vulcan's find it to be an unnecessary exertion of facial muscles. The reactions vary....

Why do I like cats?

[It's been a while since something asked him that question.]

Mainly because cats are cute, smart and have really soft fur. They just appeal to me.

Emotions make you more alive. More...real. It's better to feel them and have something, than to have none at all. I'd feel cursed if I gave up that part of myself.

[She pauses, thoughtful]

Some gods seek to become less human and more...spirit. I have always tried to be more human and less spirit. That way I feel more alive, and more able to perform my duties and not go mad from time spent in unfeeling contemplation or blind rage. To be true to my spirit self is to be a destroyer, a walking storm, and I've no desire to be that.

[Now that's an entry that has her a little concerned. He doesn't know what fun is? Oh, my. She needs to help him right away.]

There are all kinds of things I do for fun, like go on picnics and spend time with my friends and look after the flowers and draw pretty pictures.

Isn't there anything you like to do?
