[Eley is in a thoughtful mood, and when that kind of mood strikes him he starts to question things again... Feelings, usually. Human behaviours too. Today he's realised something and wants to ask the people of Luceti about it. As usual he's sitting on the outskirts of town with his journal on the ground in front of him, pointing up at his face as he looks down.]

Today I come to you with another question. 'Fun' is a concept I have not yet come to understand. As I will need to find ways of occupying myself during my stay in Luceti, I want to ask you all - what do you do for fun?

Perhaps I can give these things a try.

Reading, for starters.

There's sports, too.

It depends on the person and their interests.

I usually either read, draw or collect things.

I don't know. There's not much to do around here.

I like drinking and exploring the forest but not at the same time.

It seems that we share something in common...

Reading, drinking, gardening, card games, cooking, Art Club, tile games, flying, looking for New Feathers, and hitting up the S.O.S. Brigade's festivals and things.

You could also try the Battledome if you're more setting or fighting inclined.

Reading. Games of strategy. Riding. Dancing, though there's precious little of that to be had here.

Pranks.

This place is unutterably dull.

Reading... what kinds of things do you read?

Similarly, what sports can you recommend?

...what if you are a person born with no interests who is only just learning about such a thing?

Hmm... what kind of things do you collect? Why is it fun for you?

[Not at the same time? That gets a wondering look from Eley. But he doesn't pursue it.]

I thought that drinking was a natural process for humans to stay alive. How is this fun?

Really? You do not understand 'fun' either? You are the first I have met to say such a thing...

That is a lot to try. Games always seem to be liked by children when they are looking for fun. What exactly is a card or tile game? Can you give an example?

Ah, yes I have heard of the Battledome, though I would prefer not to use it to fight.

It seems that reading is a popular activity here...

I have tried dancing and it was not bad. Games of strategy... what do you mean by that? And what pranks?

Indeed. However, it seems that my own concept of fun greatly differs from that of my peers...
Most frustrating at times...

No one said being responsible means you can't have fun however you want, or maybe that's just the case for pirates.

Card games have a variety of different rules and they're usually played with a standard 52-card, 4-suit deck. There's variations though and the more people there are, the more decks might be used.

Tile games are things like dominoes, or mahjong, or pai-sho.

There's also chess, but I could never beat my Pops at it, so I have to admit I never got that good.

[Wait... This person is not familiar with the concept of fun? That is weird and extremely foolish.]

So I presume you have been wasting your time with things you do not like to do? Hence you do not know how to have fun?

I'd suggest trying out a lot of things and see which one feels more enjoyable to you.

I normally collect music to listen to, and cat shaped toys because I really like cats.

... And then people call me weird or a party pooper.

Goodness, Eleytheria. You...have lead a very sad life if you don't understand fun. It means things that you enjoy.

To answer your question I enjoy playing music, reading, games like go or chess, martial arts, talking to friends...and many, many other things. If you'll remember what I told you before about Seven Perfections? Each one of those things is something I enjoy.

[He nods. Thinking about it, he did spend a lot of time listening to music back home, though he might not have paid attention to why.]

I suppose I did enjoy listening to the musicians of Agkelos. It was something the country was renowned for.

Hmm... then you collect things that are visually appealing to you as well. Perhaps I could start a collection of my own.

What is it about cats that you like so much?

Hm... could you explain what your concept of fun is to me? Perhaps it is unique to each individual.

Ah, you are a pirate? [He was aware of some back home. He wonders if they're at all similar in other worlds.]

It sounds complicated... but I suppose, like anything, the rules can be learned. Assuming an opponent can be found.

[Not that Eley was incredibly competitive but hey, he'll try anything for the sake of fun!]

[Well! He wasn't expecting quite that kind of response and it puts him off guard for a second.]

I have not been wasting time. I have spent many years fulfilling my purpose as any Spirit should from my world. It is only recently that I began to develop emotion... I want to learn.

[...oh dear. Now Eley wonders if this was the wrong question to ask.]

I suppose it must be considered strange for someone to have no idea of fun... Having it seems to be an important part of human life.

What is a... party pooper?

[O-oh dear, now he looks slightly embarrassed.]

...is it really that sad? I would not have thought so prior to gaining these emotions. Looking back now, all I can say is that I fulfilled the purpose I was born for and rarely strayed from that path. Perhaps it is... somewhat sad.

Regardless, I still wish to learn. As a Spirit who must always be doing and not dwelling, I think it would benefit me to have as many interests as you seem to have.

[He thinks for a while, trying to identify what he might enjoy the most.]

Dancing was not all that bad... I also enjoy talking to those I might consider friends. I have tasted food that pleases me and relaxed to music in the past. Sometimes I play with my powers, testing myself. Learning is also enjoyable to me. Can that also be fun?

I see, I see.

As in the Midgardian film about a robot that should not develop emotions but it does and all hel breaks loose.

And everyone cries at the end because it has to be destroyed since the Midgardian government cannot accept the fact that it is able to feel.
