[Eley is in a thoughtful mood, and when that kind of mood strikes him he starts to question things again... Feelings, usually. Human behaviours too. Today he's realised something and wants to ask the people of Luceti about it. As usual he's sitting on the outskirts of town with his journal on the ground in front of him, pointing up at his face as he looks down.]
Today I come to you with another question. 'Fun' is a concept I have not yet come to understand. As I will need to find ways of occupying myself during my stay in Luceti, I want to ask you all - what do you do for fun?
Perhaps I can give these things a try.

That is a lot to try. Games always seem to be liked by children when they are looking for fun. What exactly is a card or tile game? Can you give an example?
Ah, yes I have heard of the Battledome, though I would prefer not to use it to fight.

Card games have a variety of different rules and they're usually played with a standard 52-card, 4-suit deck. There's variations though and the more people there are, the more decks might be used.
Tile games are things like dominoes, or mahjong, or pai-sho.
There's also chess, but I could never beat my Pops at it, so I have to admit I never got that good.

It sounds complicated... but I suppose, like anything, the rules can be learned. Assuming an opponent can be found.
[Not that Eley was incredibly competitive but hey, he'll try anything for the sake of fun!]

I think there are enough card game players here. If nothing else, you could always ask around and meet more, eh?
What kind of services are you offering to me as a pirate?
[He nods.] I will be sure to ask others and see what can be arranged.
What kind of services are you looking for matey?
Could be fun. If you get enough people let me know. I could use more variety in my gaming partners.

There is nothing specific I can think of, save for learning more about humans, their emotions and how they work. It depends what I would have to do to achieve that.
[He nods.] I will be sure to let you know.
As for emotions... [Rubs his chin.] I guess that's why the question about fun?
Which emotions have you encountered so far, and can you experience any of them first hand or only through observing friends?
You are not human? May I ask exactly what you are then?
[And... now he's back to being awkward again, perhaps somewhat uncomfortable explaining these things, though he nods.]
Yes. Emotions, feelings, any of these strange sensations are all new to me. I first encountered anger, hurt, betrayal. Negative emotions. It is only after I fled with a single race of humans and isolated myself from the world that I began to find the positive side. I have felt them even when I am alone, though I have spent a lot of my time recently observing others in order to learn from them. Interacting in some ways makes the emotions stronger. So perhaps a bit of both.

Then, if I might offer a suggestion, the most fun things come from being in the company of those you like. I read alone sometimes, but even then, I like to discuss books with friends or occasionally read in the company of those I love most. I come from a family of sixteen hundred though, so I'm biased.
[That's quite the family. Eley looks rather surprised to hear that.]
I am a being who operates alone by nature, however I have been trying to make new connections since coming to Luceti. I suppose it has gone well so far. I will try to interact more alongside others and see if I can discover fun this way. Thank you for your suggestion.

Good luck, eh? I started off a lot more of a loner, but my Pops' adopted me and his dream was to have a large family, so I always tried to adapt to keep up. It gets easier than you'd ever expect.
