4 - [Video]

[Eley is in a thoughtful mood, and when that kind of mood strikes him he starts to question things again... Feelings, usually. Human behaviours too. Today he's realised something and wants to ask the people of Luceti about it. As usual he's sitting on the outskirts of town with his journal on the ground in front of him, pointing up at his face as he looks down.]

Today I come to you with another question. 'Fun' is a concept I have not yet come to understand. As I will need to find ways of occupying myself during my stay in Luceti, I want to ask you all - what do you do for fun?

Perhaps I can give these things a try.

Whistling?

[He appears a bit confused by that. No, he's not sure if he quite understands. Perhaps it's obvious he hasn't tried before then~]

The wind is sometimes described as 'whistling' though I have never done it purposefully. What does that involve?

Yeah, like this.

[Pursing his lips, he'll blow gently, creating a soft whistling noise. Then he'll whistle a small tune, just as an example.]

Neat, isn't it? That's just one way of whistling. Takes a bit of practice to get down, but there's a lot of things you can do with it.

[He watches Rudy closely to see how he does it... then tries to mimic him once he stops talking. Though he obviously needs that practice because he doesn't manage to do much other than a slight squeak! And now he looks a bit embarrassed.]

It is harder than I thought it would be...

[Aw, almost had it. Admittedly Rudy can't help but chuckle at that.]

Ah, well... it's a bit hard to get used to at first. But you almost had it there, I think! When you whistle, try doing it a little more softly. And maybe shape your lips like this?

[As an example Rudy whistles again, lips shaped slightly different than before. Gently this time, and just holding one note for now. Trying to whistle songs right off might be a bit harder for Eley, so let's not do that for now.]

[Aww, Rudy! Now Eley really looks embarrassed though he can't really blame him for chuckling like that. It probably did seem amusing that he couldn't quite get the hang of it just yet...

Still, he's prepared to keep trying, since Rudy's being patient with him. He tries again to mimic Rudy, finding it a little easier this time, and after a few false starts he finally finds the same note, letting it out for as long as his breath allows it, the sound growing stronger the longer he holds it for.]

Like that?

[Even if he couldn't get it on the first try, the fact Eley's trying alone is enough. He's willing to take as much time to help out, but Eley already seems to be making progress!]

Yeah, you've got it! It's a bit tough to hold those notes at first, huh? [Smiling.] But that was really good.

[Eley's not really used to being praised like that. Oh sure, people praised him for answering their prayers as a whole, but he had never received a single complement from any one person. Maybe it was because he was closer to people here, but it felt more... personal from Rudy.

And he's not really sure how to accept it either, so he might be blushing ever so slightly.]

Ah... thank you. It was nothing impressive however. I will have to keep practicing.

[Rudy just laughs softly, completely oblivious to the older spirit's embarrassment.]

You'll get the hang of it. I'd say you've already off to a good start, actually. [He looks down, smiling sheepishly.] I remember it took me a bit longer to hold down notes.

Then perhaps you are simply a good teacher. [He suggests.] Though I am sure whoever taught you was not a bad one. I feel as though I could do a great many things if I put my mind to it... I have just never taken the time to learn.

I-- well, I wouldn't say that. I just sort of, um... picked it up over time.

[More accurately, he sort of picked it up as a kid. So it's more like he taught himself. But a good teacher? Now it was Rudy's turn to feel a bit embarrassed. He's having a hard time imagining that, as evident by how he briefly glances downwards.]

But-- um, well. [Back on track!!!] Anyway, you can learn anything if you keep trying and put in enough effort towards it! I'm sure you'll find more things you like doing soon enough.

[Aww, Rudy! Eley's wondering what he said that's caused him to act like that... He was embarrassed about being praised by him? Or just from being praised at all? He tilts his head a little, trying to work him out.]

Are you... not used to being complimented by others?

Huh? ... No, it's not that! S'just, um-- [He looks away, shrugging in an attempt to act natural.] Not something I hear often, that's all.

[In other words, Eley really did hit it right on the nail. Rudy's just a little embarrassed to admit it.]

Anyway, you said you never had time to learn? ... Were you busy a lot back home, then?

[Hmm, well Eley won't keep embarrassing him if he can help it. Not purposefully anyway. Since Rudy asked, he'll move away from the subject and answer instead.]

My duties at home mean that I am constantly on the move... and always doing something. As a Wind Spirit, it is my job to protect the world's atmosphere. Besides that... it was all I knew in the past. All I was supposed to know.

"Supposed" to know?

[There's a confused sort of tone in that question, along with an equally appropriate headtilt! Do elaborate for this kid, Eley.]

[He gives a nod before he continues.]

Spirits in my world are born with a strong sense of purpose. It usually requires that we guard certain parts of the environment and work together to keep the world alive. Our purpose is our life. Anything else is foreign and meaningless to us.

Or so it was for me. I became closer to humans than the others and began to draw from their emotions. Now I feel restless... I am eager to learn more about how humans live.
