[Saleh's in the middle of a routine patrol in the woods when he decides to stop and take a Valega break. So he sits on the ground in front of a tree and begins to focus on all the sights and sounds of nature that surround him.]

[While Eley spent a great deal of time by his tree nowadays, he still liked to wander the forests if only to try to re-familiarise himself with his surroundings.

Today however, the Spirit ends up spotting a familiar face sitting by a tree. It's then he realises they haven't spoken for some time, and recent events have not been forgotten. Had anything happened to him as well?

...not wanting to break Saleh's concentration, Eley moves closer to his friend and takes a seat next to him, trying to be as silent as possible.]

[With Eley's silence, Saleh doesn't even notice his approach at first, as he continues to concentrate. It's only a moment or two later when Saleh senses someone's presence, and shoots a casual glance.]

Oh...I'm sorry, Eleytheria. I didn't even see your approach.

[winds_voice]

[Eley's patient and simply waits for Saleh to stir from is meditation. When he finally looks to him and speaks, the Spirit is glad enough to reply.]

It is all right... you were deep in thought and I did not want to disturb you.

Even so, I wonder how you have been Saleh. I am afraid I have not been very good at keeping my word regarding our visits of late.

Hmm. I've been all right. It has been some time since we've spoken. Is something troubling you?

[winds_voice]

[Eley finds that question rather difficult to answer. Where would he even begin to divulge everything that had been troubling him?]

...a lot has happened, yes. [He begins, keeping his gaze focussed on a spot on the ground in front of him now.] The Malnosso continue to toy with me and cause me to lose grip on my emotions. I am... growing rather tired of it.

[mountain_sage]

[This concerns Saleh greatly as he shifts himself to face the Spirit. Without even thinking, he reaches out towards Eley's hand.]

...What happened? What have they done?

[winds_voice]

[...it's a gesture that alarms the Spirit, but only because he's never used to people reaching out to him like that. He won't stop Saleh though, despite his reservations. He's beginning to realise just how important feeling comforted actually is...

He pauses. There was a lot that had happened recently.]

First they twisted my memories back to the day I had been betrayed by my people. I became... angry again. Angry towards humans. Not only that but I forgot those that I have grown to know here. I attacked them as if they were strangers...

Then... they used that weapon. That Shift Bomb. I know that I should have no attachment to the people that it affected, but I can never condone the use of such a terrible thing. Many people died and they will not come back for a long time. Their attitude towards what they had done also aggravates me.

[mountain_sage]

[Saleh doesn’t do much; he merely rests his hand on top of Eley’s.]

I remember...my memories had been altered as well...to when I had newly arrived to Luceti. I was still desperately searching for Lady Myrrh. I believed my village was still under attack by the monsters, and that Ewan was in danger.

[But the second part is completely new to him.]

...The Shift Bomb? I hadn’t heard of that. What is a Shift Bomb?

[Eley gives a sympathetic nod at his words, allowing that touch on his hand. So he too had gone through the same thing. That time had been a mess of confusion and anguish... Eley hoped they'd never have to experience something like that again.]

That must have been troubling for you. I know that I had no idea where I was any longer, or why my body had sprouted new wings. Without anyone to tell me what was happening or the desire to really listen if there was, I found that my frustration was only worsened.

As for the Shift bomb... I do not know exactly how it works, but I believe that it eradicated all life within a certain area. Usually death is not permanent here and in this case the rule is no different... however, it will take hundreds of years for life to return. The people, the cultists that they targeted may as well be labelled as dead.

...So it was the Malnosso who set off this Shift Bomb?

[winds_voice]

Yes...

[But that was not the only problem and it likely showed that something else about that incident had been playing on Eley's mind.]

Yet, those who went on the previous mission, such as myself, were the ones who decided the fate of the cultists and the Iron Eye. While I played no part in it, I feel... guilty that I did not try to stop them from going ahead with their decision. The fact that there are individuals here who would be so quick to kill such a large number of people unnerves me. How do I know who to trust?

That...is a sad factor of war...the necessity of killing to protect yourself or those you care about. I would not condone senseless killing personally, but even I may forget myself if I saw people trying to harm Ewan or Lady Myrrh...

Different people have different attitudes about war. Some enjoy the thrill, while others try to avoid it at all costs. But if the opposing side insists on starting a war, then we would have no choice but to fight back.

I, for one, would prefer to avoid conflict. But I would not simply roll over and die if someone attacked me.

...then there are things that can drive a peaceful person to kill? Is there no such thing as a true pacifist?

[He has to wonder, because the Agkelons were designed to be peaceful and to know nothing else. Then again, even they had fallen into conflict with the dragons. How long then would it take before they began to attack people too? Had Eley really made a mistake taking them away from the world?]

I... understand the need to defend yourself at least. Though Spirits do not often become involved with humans, we do have a sense of self-preservation. After all, for us to be destroyed would spell disaster for the world.

A true pacifist...I'm not entirely sure it would be possible. It may be...but...

[Even with all of his disciplines, Saleh knows he is far from perfect. He's already killed one man, and even though it was accidental, it makes him no better than an if the kill were intentional.]

Mankind is capable of great violence. Self-preservation is our nature, but many of us are driven by greed. That is why wars happen. Pathetic creatures with a hidden strength...that is all we are.

[winds_voice]

[It was a strong statement and unfortunately one that Eley could certainly agree with. Yet he was trying to stray away from fixating himself on that one idea of humanity. If he didn't, he would surely end up trying to destroy them as he did in the past...]

Yes... humans are weak and full of flaws. Yet they do still find strength despite this. While some will succumb to their desires, others will rise above them. The strong will always fight for the weak. It hurts me to think that such a battle will be never-ending, but... perhaps there is some reason for the balance of good and bad. Does it not allow you to appreciate that which is good much more?

Very much so. We all face hardships, either caused by our own flaws, or the greed of others, or from other means. But without these hardships, we would never grow stronger.
