[Sure enough, Eley was there, and he likely would have been even after night had fallen. He rarely slept since he didn't really need to, but tonight especially, his mind would have been too active to really settle down to rest.

He had to admit that he wasn't expecting visitors at this time though so he seems rather surprised when he sees Tear coming up here so late.]

Tear? Is everything all right?

Everything's all right. [For her at least, and she offers a small reassuring smile just in case. But it fades away soon enough as she takes her place standing beside him, worry faint in her eyes.]

I saw you sign up for the mission tomorrow...

[...there's a slightly awkward pause as Tear brings that up. Of course she would have noticed and he's sure she wouldn't have been the only one either. He turns away from her now, looking up to the sky.]

You may feel that it is strange for me to do such a thing... but I have a reason. It is not for me, but for a friend.

For a friend? [She studies his face carefully even though he was looking toward the sky, eyebrows furrowing slightly in concern. Truth be told that response answers a multitude questions already—she had done the same before, going on missions for the sake of her friends...

But that doesn't mean her worries are eased.] I see... Are you sure you'll be all right, though?

[Eley lowers his gaze at that, though he's still not looking directly at her. He gives a firm nod.]

I will be. I know I will be of use out there and I will do what I can to watch out for my fellow volunteers.

...I can only hope that everything will go according to plan.

[That nobody would have to die. And that he would not be required to participate should things start heading in that direction.]

I do as well, but you should be careful regardless. [Even though she knows he's capable, that he has that power, though at the same time that is where her worry stems from.]

What about the others going on this mission? Are you familiar with any of them?

Of course. I will not take any unnecessary risks.

[That next question earns an uncertain pause though. It wasn't just that he knew people, it was the fact that the very person he was going to help was going to be there with him. Perhaps it was good that Eley could keep an eye on him...]

I know a few of them. One in particular. [Is all he says, trying to avoid getting onto the subject of Rudy and his condition.]

[Fortunately for Eley, Tear doesn't try to pry for the identity of the person further. It was his decision to tell her or not, and she does feel some ease that there is someone he knows well on this mission that could look after him, so that he isn't forced into a situation he doesn't want to be in.]

There's quite a few people that I know going on the mission as well. They're trustworthy comrades, so if you or the people you know find yourselves in trouble I hope you turn to each other for help.

[If he had the choice then he would gladly talk about it. The knowledge he had gained weighed heavily on his mind, even moreso tonight. But he had promised not to tell anyone else and so it was easier to try to avoid the subject altogether, for fear it might slip.]

It is good to know that I will be around people I can rely on then. I will trust your word... and hope for the best. Just know that I will do whatever I can to ensure that they return safely.

That you all will return safely. [That he wouldn't be forced to do something he didn't want to, do something he disliked so much—that he would come home just as safe as the rest of them. It was what she wanted for him.] It is your duty to look after them, but you can't neglect yourself either.

[Especially in such a harsh environment, she doesn't even know if he's even experienced anything like it.] Though one of them, Jade, can be... difficult to keep up with.

[Finally, he turns to look at her at that.]

Yes... of course. I will be all right, do not worry.

[He doesn't feel that he would be particularly threatened by the environment at least, having never had a problem with the deserts in Aether. But things were different now. It was one thing living without sustenance in an average, temperate climate, but he hadn't tested his new body in extreme circumstances yet.

That name also seems somewhat familiar.]

I believe I met someone with that name at the speed dating event. He complimented me... he did not seem to be particularly difficult at the time.

[She's relieved that he's looking at her now, since it had left her wondering if there was something he was trying to hide or something she had done to displease him. All those concerns are fade away as she wonders just how Jade treated him during that first meeting, since the entirety of that gathering had been so interesting.]

I suppose the better way to phrase it is that he can be difficult to keep up with, if you don't have the patience. He has a habit of teasing others, sometimes at their expense, but he is very competent and a capable soldier.

[But that also meant he was pragmatic about his approaches to things...]

Hmm... I like to think that I am patient enough. It will be good to be aware of his teasing habits though. I will bear that in mind.

[Eley knew that he sometimes wasn't the fastest at catching onto whether or not someone was being serious. At least he knew to look out for it now.]

Is there anyone else I should be aware of?

[She pauses to think for a moment—it wasn't that she didn't doubt the others she knew on the mission, but she would not have claimed to know them extraordinarily well.]

There's also Ino. She's an... acquaintance, but is very capable and caring, if a little insistent depending on the topic at hand. Asch is the same. He's someone from my own world and I've fought alongside him once before.

[Not that she could say she could trust him beyond being a fellow soldier, reaching for the same goal.]

And there's Freyjadour. You can trust him completely.

Freyjadour.

[He utters the name as if trying to place it. He hadn't met anyone with that name before, but he was also observant. He knew that many of his friends had people that were close to them, Tear being no exception.]

To say that with no hesitation, you must trust him completely yourself. He must be very important to you. [A pause.] I am always hesitant to give my trust away so easily, but I will heed your words. It will be reassuring to know that there will be others I can depend on out there.

I do, he has proven himself worth my trust from the first time we met. It was during a battle some time ago. [The details of the days following after were a blur, partly because of the losing fight and because she was taken by the Malnosso for a long time almost immediately. Thinking about those months as their lab experiment made her uncomfortable, and that was only from what she remembered. Hopefully it wouldn't show too much on her face.]

... And I'm glad that you trust me enough to listen.

A battle?

[Sorry Tear, but if you're going to mention something like that, Eley isn't going to just let it slide. You know how it works~ His curiosity will always lead him to ask questions, particularly when it has something to do with a friend.]

Despite the circumstances surrounding our first meeting... I know you did not mean to harm me. You have been nothing but supportive of me ever since. I do not see what reason I have to distrust you in that case. If anything, you should be the one afraid of me.

Yes... You can say it was the first loss Luceti experienced. In the end we were forced to retreat, and many were injured. [They were fighting their environment just as much as they were fighting the cultists, and there were so many other dangers to look out for that had nothing to do with the fight itself.

She shakes her head at the memory, instead focusing on the last of what Eley said, a small smile eventually forming. Hadn't she explained this before? Though, a reassuring reminder every so often wouldn't do any harm.] I'm not afraid of you, Eley. I don't think I ever truly have been.
