Character

Name: Eleytheria
Gender: Male
Age: Physically 28-ish, technically thousands of years old
Wing Color: White with gold tips
Physical Appearance:
Eleytheria is a Spirit and as such technically shouldn’t have any physical form. He was born from Aether who was the first Spirit and is made from the same blue substance that originates from the core of the planet he resides in. This substance is known as ‘magic’ and shows itself as a blue light when Spirits use their powers.

Of course, Eleytheria needs a human form to interact with others and in this form he is fairly tall but not to the extreme. He is slim but not particularly muscular or athletic – lean and elegant. He likes to differentiate himself from other humans by dressing differently to them and wearing rather feminine clothes to accentuate his supposedly ambiguous gender. He favours silk and long flowing garments, being a wind Spirit. Scarves, capes, ribbons, anything that can flutter in the breeze would please him.

The Wind Spirit has no real reason to fear others (at least, he doesn’t recognise fear at this point) and so carries himself with confidence. He has a certain aura around him that leads others to believe he isn’t quite human. When wearing anything capable of being caught in the wind, even his soft mane of hair, one might notice it billowing slightly despite the lack of a real breeze there.

Eleytheria can change his form at will but he has settled into this human form and has no real desire to change to anything else. The only exception is an animal form which he occasionally takes to speak to his worshippers. In this form he is a long white and gold serpentine dragon with four small feathered wings that match the colour of the wings he was given upon coming to Luceti. Of course in the case of Luceti he would now have six wings, another pair in the middle of his body. This dragon is used as an emblem among his followers and can be seen in statues, carvings and the crest of the Kingdom of Agkelos.

History:
Atlas was the first Spirit and was created from the magic found at the centre of Planet Earth. This substance is blue in colour and warm to the touch. It is not entirely known what it is made out of and still a complete mystery to the people on the planet’s surface, however some believe it to be a living substance or for the core to be one organism that regulates the planet as a whole. If this was the case then Atlas would simply be a projection of this organism or perhaps even considered a child of the planet itself.

Atlas was given the power to create. He set about adding continents and oceans to the planet and adding lifeforms before observing their development. As time passed, humans evolved and their greedy ways caused friction and war that slowly caused Earth to crumble. It was soon apparent Atlas needed to help preserve what was left of the planet before things got out of control.

So he created another Spirit from the same magic substance as himself - Aether. Aether had similar powers to Atlas and was therefore something of a twin to the Spirit. Atlas split the world into two and sent Aether to watch over the new world. The old world remained the old chaotic Earth that Atlas would tend to and shield from the other. The second world was named after Aether and what the Spirits considered more peaceable beings, as well as various non-human lifeforms from Earth, were placed there. In order to maintain control, Aether created three new Spirits to uphold the ecosystem and nurture the humans. Eleytheria, who would govern the wind and all things that relied on it. Erimia, who would maintain the fertility of soil, protect the forests and the mountains. And Thalassa, who would sustain the health of the oceans and waterways. Many other lesser Spirits followed soon after. Aether nurtured the people towards as peaceful a life as possible. He created the new continent of Agkelos as well as a new race of people known as the Agkelons who would mediate the other kingdoms and connect them in a peaceful manner to live a life free from war and suffering while the Earth healed.

Agkelos is a kingdom steeped in thousands of years of history. Most know it as a mythical island that floats in the sky, surrounded by impenetrable clouds. Yet Agkelos wasn’t always a flying kingdom. Thousands of years in the past, it was just another land mass, floating in blue waters. It is most commonly said to have been located at the heart of the Central Ocean – the large, circular expanse of water found within the ring of other land masses on Aether. It was a time that bred many myths and legends. A time when magic was not frowned upon or studied diligently as a science but embraced as a natural part of the world and the creatures that lived in it. It may have been primitive but it was certainly fascinating.

At that time, Agkelos was not the secluded and utterly superior place it is said to be today. Bridges extended to all three continents – Bravura, Volante and Esperando. They traded well with all three and welcomed them with open arms. Secure routes were made to all the major cities – Ftero, Pteryga, Ptisi and the capital, Agkelos itself. Visitors were met with great hospitality and the kingdom gained immense respect from the rest of the world. Its beauty was unrivalled elsewhere; the buildings were made of a white moonstone known as Sky Ivory, mined from the continent’s very own mountains. The stone absorbed the sunlight and at night, gave out a soft hazy glow. The Prism Flowers around the outskirts of the capital that grew on the plains known as the Paradise Lands behaved similarly though no-one really understood the purpose of the light itself to the plant. At times, visitors would even be able to traverse the grounds and halls of the Royal Palace too. The place was known for its ability to relax visitors with both its tranquillity, the peacable and friendly nature of the people and the heavenly music that played out across the cities by various Agkelon musicians. The Agkelons trusted everyone, and that was their major flaw.

The people of the Imperial Continent of Bravura began seeking to harvest their valuable resources and began illegally mining the Agkelon’s Sky Ivory. The Emperor hoped that by exploiting them, they could grow and expand themselves, gaining more power and hold over people across the world. Why shouldn’t they benefit from Agkelos, since the people were so willing to share anyway? The vain people of Volante began to envy the architecture and intricate technology that Agkelos had developed. Their people began to research the Kingdom - the people and their culture, their values and beliefs, anything they could. And all in the hope of stealing some of their beauty and intelligence to benefit themselves so that the rest of the world might envy them too. The people of Esperando were the only ones that kept well away. They had no use for Agkelos and their strange ways. And so they stayed as they were, worshipping their primal gods and dealing with their own internal conflicts. In a way, they felt blessed by the strange continent. Bravura had always seemed intent on robbing them of their gold, and for once the pressure on them had been eased now the Emperor had turned his attention elsewhere.

Relations between the other continents and Agkelos became incredibly strained and conflicts soon broke out. Though naturally at peace with the world, Agkelos was in possession of a small army, the best being the Royal Knights of the capital city. Most often the only major conflict they had to deal with was an occasional attack by a dragon or another creature, but now violent conflicts between the people themselves were becoming more commonplace. The people of Agkelos knew that they couldn’t fight off the power of the Imperial Army though, or even Volante. If they tried, they would be crushed and likely wiped off the face of the Earth.

Lucky then, that a certain primal god who was currently lurking in the swamps of Esperando seemed to have taken a particular interest in the island. Eleytheria, the god of the wind and the air, saw purpose in the Kingdom and the people that dwelled in it. Being at one with the air, it was hardly a chore to keep an eye on people all over the world, and he liked the Agkelons. They weren’t like the other humans. They had advanced beyond primitive means and it pained him to see them at war with the others when they had had no need of it before. A separation was needed then, and Eleytheria sought to help them with that. Belief in Spirits was dwindling at this time and Eleytheria had come to know betrayal from his people, an emotion he should never have known, but then he should never have come to know hate or anger either. Or even love. He shouldn’t have interfered, but he longed for a kingdom full of people he could trust, devoid of violence and chaos.

A god, especially a primal god, gathers strength from the belief of others. And so it was many years before Eleytheria could act. He remained in the swamps and the jungles of Esperando. Wherever he stayed, his influence was the strongest, and some even claimed to hear some whisper of his voice if they concentrated hard enough. But Eleytheria only communicated with who he wanted to. He had a certain power over the humans, and that decision lied solely with him and noone else.

When the time came to act, Eleytheria travelled to Agkelos and for the first time he made contact with the King there. Of course, the King was bewildered by this sudden new presence, overwhelmed and thinking himself mad. But Eleytheria calmed him and revealed to him his identity. He would help the Agkelons and in return, they would worship him, believe in him, trust him. At that time, the Agkelons trusted noone but the soothing voice of the wind comforted the King and he found it difficult to refuse such an offer. Without waiting for an answer, Eleytheria made haste to rid the land of anyone unfit to set foot on the land of Agkelos. All invaders, even innocent visitors – if they were not Agkelon they did not belong in his new Kingdom. They were not a part of his plan. He sent storms across the land, great winds to blow them away. Agkelos had never seen anything like it.

With all of his strength gathered, Eleytheria began to lift the continent away from the ocean and into the sky. Agkelos was not for the land to claim and the sky was his domain. Though dirtied and tainted by humans and monsters like the land, it would be in the sky he would dwell with his people for many years to come, until his lost strength was renewed. The people thanked him for his help, and the King decided to keep to his promise. From that day onwards, Eleytheria kept close contact with the Royal Family of Agkelos and the Royal Family in turn, instilled faith in the people. Eleytheria became their deity and they came to live at peace again, becoming one with the sky and the wind. They vowed never to let outsiders into the Kingdom again, should anyone discover a way to reach them.

And so the Kingdom remained at peace for thousands of years more. But during that time the island was frequently spotted and the curious people of Aether began to research a way to reach it, thinking it to be Heaven itself. As time passed, populations of harmful creatures grew as well, and so attacks from monsters became more frequent. It meant ample training for warriors and knights alike, and soon they became adept at fighting the various dragons and monsters that sought to do harm to their precious Kingdom. But still it was a nuisance and an unwanted danger and they felt pressured by the watchful eyes of the people of the land below.

The King consulted Eleytheria once more, wondering if there was any possible way to offer more protection. Though it would mean an extra burden on him, an added drain on his strength, Eleytheria agreed to shield them from outsiders. He summoned a great mass of cloud to enshroud the island. Not only would the people below be unable to see them, it would make gaining access to the island much more difficult.

Though the occasional dragon still managed to claw its way through, being creatures of the air themselves, Agkelos was more or less safe now. There only dispute was with the great Silver Dragons who made the Ivory Mountains their home and who did not take kindly to the humans encroaching on their territory and slaying their families. Generally though, the knights did their job and few were hurt. This was the new Kingdom of Agkelos, the sky kingdom, and it would remain this way for years to come.

Time passed and things remained still in Agkelos, a place preserved. Until one day a prince was born, a curious and very bored prince who was kept inside the palace walls for fear he might end up hurting himself from his curiosity. He escaped one day though and, blinded by the light of the Prism Flowers he had never seen before, he fell from the flying continent. Seeing this, Eleytheria rushed to his aid and managed to save him from certain death, but the boy’s memory was taken from him and he was not yet of age to be able to communicate with him as were the laws of Agkelos. The only choice he had was to remain with the boy until one day he opened his mind to him and found his way home.

The prince found friends in the ground dwellers and had a particularly close relationship with one in particular. Eventually he learned to hear Eleytheria and found his way home. The girl though, came with him. With the arrival of a ground-dweller, things began to change in Agkelos and this included Eleytheria. Though extremely wary of her at first he was also interested in how she treated their prince, how she interacted with the people. He began to feel things and realise perhaps he was wrong about the land below after all. But Agkelos was still a long way from being accepting, and he wasn’t ready to open its doors just yet.

Besides that there was a darker force building on Earth and starting to spread and threaten Aether as well, but currently this threat was invisible to the Spirits and people going about their business...

Personality:
Though Spirits are supposedly lacking emotionally, they are influenced by those they interact with and as such Eleytheria has developed a distinct personality. Spirits were meant to be emotionless beings, born to keep the world in balance without the burden of emotional attachment. However, many of the greater Spirits are becoming influenced as the world is changing.

Normally, Eleytheria is calm and patient and speaks with a soothing tone. He is naturally inquisitive and won’t hesitate to ask someone about something he doesn’t understand, even if he fails to understand it after explanation. It can take him a long time to grasp certain cultural concepts among humans or any other race, and deeper things such as love may never be truly understood by him (though the same could be said for humans). Though he is powerful, he is usually gentle and is quite happy standing on his own somewhere reflecting on the world around him and his role in keeping it ticking. This can make him seem distant and absent-minded and as he rarely outwardly portrays how he feels inside this may make him hard for people to read. Forming a close bond with him is a good way to get him to be a little more open with his feelings, but this is rare now, especially as he still possesses a lingering feeling of bitterness and distrust for the majority of humans. His generally calm demeanour can create a relaxing atmosphere for those around him. The world moves slowly for him.

However, Eleytheria can be a sensitive Spirit and this leads to him showing a slightly darker side of himself at times. He is particularly sensitive to betrayal after his people lost faith in him and abandoned him. If there is one emotion he has picked up it’s anger and when he becomes upset he shows a fierce temper, often creating rain and storms in the process. He does not trust very easily and if any trust is broken he is not likely to forgive very easily either. He rewards people for peace and despises violence even though he lashes out himself when pushed too far. This constant struggle with his desire to be still and the imbalance of his emotions can sometimes cause problems, especially when it comes to relating to people and forming bonds with them. He is able to create friendships though, quite close ones too, and is fiercely loyal to anyone he bonds with, providing they are loyal in return. He is also shown to favour children as they are more innocent and untainted by the darkness that fills human hearts, though he may not necessarily know how to interact them as a person normally would.

On love, no Spirit should know love. However it is something he is curious about and in one instance he has shown it, though he doesn’t really ‘get’ what he should do with it, or why he feels that way. Strong emotions lead him to grow confused which can also prompt him to throw something akin to a tantrum, also expressed in the weather and atmosphere around him. He hates feeling confused and this seems to be projected outwardly. Really, he is rather like a child, preferring simple explanations and a black and white philosophy on life, though this has already been challenged many times and he knows now that this is an unrealistic outlook on life.

Like all Spirits, Eleytheria has an incredibly strong sense of purpose and needs to feel that he is contributing positively to the running of the world in order to feel content. To a Spirit, purpose is even more than just a path to happiness though, it is the very reason for their being. If a Spirit becomes depressed and starts to feel useless they will begin to fade away physically too, taking on a translucent appearance and eventually disappearing completely or ‘dying’. While this sense of purpose may be on a grand scale as Eleytheria is used to in his work of monitoring the planet, it may also come from simply being a friend to someone or a protector. As long as he has the will to do something, Eleytheria will live.

Eleytheria thrives on praise and the belief of others, like other Spirits in the world. It bolsters his strength and helps maintain the sense of purpose he so needs. Though he is ageless he is not immune to illness and/or injury and will need to rest and heal like any other human being in his current form. If a strong enough force is applied to him he could essentially be torn apart and would have to reform and grow again. Since his power is limited on Luceti, he is much more vulnerable. Other than that he is immortal and will live for as long as the planet’s core is active.

Strengths: (Physical, mental and emotional)

Physical
Eleytheria’s body is made from magic but he still possesses all the physical aspects of the human body down to the blood that flows through their veins, and is able to touch and apply pressure. The only exception to this rule is if he is seen to be losing his sense of purpose and starts to fade.

He is ageless in that he is alive for as long as at least one of the cores of the planets Earth and Aether are still active. His appearance never changes unless he assumes another form out of choice, but he really doesn’t do this unless he feels the need to become his dragon form. This form doesn’t grant any extra abilities and is purely aesthetic, though it may be intimidating or awe-inspiring for some.

He also doesn’t need to eat or drink though he does still take part in these activities just for pleasure. He doesn’t really need to sleep either unless injured or particularly exhausted. It will help him to recover his energy but he can quite easily go without if he doesn’t use his powers very much.

He is able to manipulate the wind and therefore summon clouds, use gusts of wind to push away a target or use the wind for flight. As his powers are capped in Luceti he would not be able to summon the huge storms or other natural disasters he is usually capable of.

Mental/Emotional
He is curious and peaceful when not crossed or angered and rewards those he grows close to if only with his loyalty. He is a fairly deep thinker which sometimes can allow for good ideas and so he can be wise in some situations. He is also eager to learn new things.

He generates a peaceful atmosphere and encourages tranquil thought and harmony. He generally keeps his emotions to himself or fails to feel them entirely which can protect him to some degree. Once he trusts someone he will be loyal to the end... or until they betray him.

It could be said that his difficulty in forming attachments could be a potential strength too, as he is less likely to be hurt or manipulated. Bonds do form between him and others however, so he is never safe-guarded completely against this, or manipulation even by strangers.

Another ability Eleytheria possesses is the ability to essentially ‘ride’ in someone’s head, meaning he would become invisible to those around him but can still communicate mentally with them and them alone. They would essentially hear a voice in their head. This in no way means that he can read the person’s thoughts or learn anything about them or manipulate them at all. Of course, player permission will be asked for before this can happen.

Weaknesses: (Physical, mental and emotional)

Physical
Though it is difficult to kill him outright he is still prone to illness or injury and can be hurt and struck down. Using a great amount of power will exhaust him and if he over-exerts himself or becomes severely injured it will take time for him to recover. He isn’t really physically strong either when it comes to carrying/pushing heavy things and prefers to try and use the elements to his advantage, though even the wind can’t help all the time.

If Eleytheria feels that he has no purpose in the world his body will begin to fade and if it continues he will disappear completely, essentially fading out of existence. ‘Fading’ implies that his body starts to turn transparent much like a ghost and he will become weaker and more lethargic as it progresses, gradually disappearing until he is no longer there. If no piece of his Spirit remains in the world he will not return and has effectively died. It would be possible to revive him from the core of either Earth or Aether, but only another Spirit could do that and they are worlds away. If he was revived in this way he would not retain any memories of his past life either. Of course in Luceti, the wings offer another means for him to die if removed, making him more vulnerable. He is also capable of being torn or blown apart, but the pieces of him would steadily come together and reform as long as they aren’t trapped or hindered. This would take time however - the further away the pieces are, the greater the time it would take for him to recover. Purpose can come from something as simple as caring for a person or something as grand as monitoring an entire ecosystem. As long as he feels needed, he will survive to some extent.

Mental/Emotional
Eleytheria isn’t very aware of the social norms of humanity (and likewise any other race he’s never met) so can sometimes appear a little awkward or almost creepy. He has a tendency to watch and observe what people are doing without realising that it could make them feel uncomfortable. He isn’t trying to cause anyone any discomfort though, he just doesn’t have much of an idea of how to normally react around humans.

His curiosity can sometimes lead him astray and he can be manipulated by the right people. This manipulation may also extend to his sense of purpose being so central to his survival. If someone knows this secret, they may be able to use him or trick him while also saving his life. Some concepts are beyond his understanding and may confuse him further or take him a long time to come to terms with. He doesn’t always make the best decisions.

Strong emotions cause him to lash out and act unpredictably. If depressed for too long a time he will lose strength and begin to fade away. If angry he will cause storms (or at least violent winds around him). He does not forgive and forget very easily.

First Person:

Third Person:
It had been many years since Eleytheria had lost his people, but still the pain lingered. Most of the time he carried it with him but pushed it back, concentrating on his new purpose instead. Occasionally he saw something or heard something that would bring it to the fore and alter his mood. Though that mood should really remain still for the entirety of his existence, Eleytheria had learned something about human emotion from his time spent close to them, and now he struggled to comprehend what he was feeling. It was often easier to take it out on the environment, let the heavens open and the rain pour all around him. Let the thunder boom and the lightning flash across the sky unhindered. Let the wind howl.

In Luceti he found himself restrained and so the effects of his mood only covered the immediate area around him rather than an entire continent’s worth of space. His powers were hindered here and he didn’t like to feel restricted in this way. He wanted freedom, he wanted to feel the energy of his world flowing through his veins. Here he felt weaker, more insignificant. Even the wings on his back made him feel... strange. Though the wings seemed to match his appearance, he knew they were not his own and that unnerved him. He couldn’t alter them or remove them, they were always there and somehow felt very important, as if they might sustain him. Then there was that... code on his neck. He felt violated, as if someone had tampered with him and put a brand on him to show he was owned, caged.

Eleytheria preferred to stay on the outskirts of the village looking in. He felt uncomfortable in crowds and now there were even more creatures he knew nothing about, all mingling in the same buildings and all sharing those same wings as himself. Were they really all that different anymore? While he tried to help his mind to settle, wondering just where and how to live in this new place, he would dwell in the forests close to the village so he could observe the people there. Perhaps on occasion he would dare to venture into the settlement and attempt to converse with a few of them, take a close look.

He would be careful though, because this wasn’t his world anymore and he had no idea what to expect. All Eleytheria knew was that it didn’t feel safe.
